Anne had the privilege of speaking at the rededication ceremony for the Nathan Phillips Square Peace Garden. In attendance was Mayor John Tory who had this to say:

"Nathan Phillips Square is where Torontonians and visitors from around the world gather to share memories, to protest, to mourn, and to celebrate community. It’s wonderful to be here today to open The Peace Garden with so many members of Toronto’s faith communities. The Peace Garden will be a lasting symbol of the collaborative relationship between the many and diverse faiths in our city."

Toronto's Many Tongues

With the acceptance of her new post as Toronto's Poet Laureate, Anne intends to amplify the voices of  Toronto's diverse arts community during her tenure:

“How do we make a space for all these literatures that have come to us in such tremendous largesse, such tremendous richness? We need Torontonians to bring their cultures, bring their poets to us, so we have access to that huge international library.”
