The Tafelmusik Chamber Choir and vocal quartet, the Hilliard Ensemble, combine for the world premiere of The Passion of Lavinia Andronicus by Canada's Omar Daniel, with libretto by Anne Michaels.
Unable to speak, Lavinia's "internal voice" is represented collectively by the solo vocal groups, consisting of soprano and four male singers (countertenor, two tenors, and baritone) offering the listener a new dimension to the tragic figure at the centre of one of Shakespeare’s most harrowing plays, Titus Andronicus.
Praise for The Passion of Lavinia Andronicus:
"In her text, Michaels vividly explores Lavinia's rage, shame and desire for revenge." - Globe and Mail
